The Annapurna Base Camp Trek and the Poon Hill Trek are often viewed as two separate journeys, but combining them creates the most balanced and visually rewarding Nepal trekking itinerary available.
While the trek to Annapurna Base Camp takes you deep into the heart of a 360-degree mountain amphitheater, the detour to Poon Hill provides the "big picture" a panoramic sunrise over the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna massifs that you simply cannot see from the base camp itself. This route also offers superior acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust gradually as you move from the vibrant rhododendron forests of the lower hills to the glacial sanctuary of the high Himalayas.
Terrain: From terraced farmlands and ancient Gurung villages to high-altitude alpine basins.
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Poon Hill (12 Days) is one of the most rewarding trekking adventures in Nepal, combining two of the most famous Himalayan destinations into one unforgettable journey. This trek takes you deep into the spectacular Annapurna Conservation Area, where dramatic alpine landscapes, vibrant forests, and traditional mountain villages create an immersive Himalayan experience.
Beginning in Kathmandu, the journey continues to the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region. From there, the trek officially starts at Nayapul, leading through terraced farmland, suspension bridges, and charming villages surrounded by lush hills.
One of the early highlights of the trek is the ascent to Poon Hill (3,210m), one of Nepal’s most famous sunrise viewpoints. From here, trekkers witness a breathtaking panorama of the Annapurna Massif and Dhaulagiri ranges as the rising sun illuminates the snow-covered peaks in golden light.
After the Poon Hill experience, the trail continues deeper into the Annapurna Sanctuary, passing through traditional mountain villages such as Chhomrong and dense rhododendron forests. As the trek climbs higher into the Modi Khola valley, the landscapes gradually transform from green hills into rugged alpine terrain.
The ultimate destination is Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m), located in a natural amphitheater surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks. Here, trekkers are completely encircled by spectacular mountains including Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and the sacred Machapuchare (Fishtail). The sunrise from Annapurna Base Camp is one of the most magical moments in the Himalayas.
As the journey continues back down the valley, trekkers enjoy a relaxing stop at the natural hot springs of Jhinu Danda, where the warm mineral waters offer a perfect way to relax after days of trekking.
Throughout the trek, travelers also experience the unique culture of the local Gurung communities, traditional teahouse hospitality, and diverse natural landscapes that make the Annapurna region one of the most famous trekking destinations in the world.
This trek is moderate and active, involving daily hikes of approximately 5–7 hours with gradual altitude gain up to 4,130 meters.
This trek uniquely combines the iconic Poon Hill sunrise with the immersive experience of Annapurna Base Camp, offering one of the most complete and scenic trekking journeys in the Himalayas.
